I've posted some parody captions before, but this one just wrote itself.  And in case you were living under a rock for the past year...

ZZ Bottom - A Parody

Naturally being a fan of wit, parodies have been a favorite of mine.  Not quite sure Weird Al would go this route though.  For the original:

It seems that the majority of TG that occurs in media usually sides with science fiction and fantasy.  So out of curiosity, I'd like to know the relationship of TG fans to SciFi/Fantasy nerds...

Dovakhin

I like--no LOVE--cosplay.  Never actually done it myself, but let me tel you there are EXTREMELY talented people at it.  And that can only mean great 'live action' photos for caption stories.  As mentioned in my disclaimer, I don't own the photo, and in this case I don't own the cosplay either.  But it DOES inspire a story.

Noir Story

A cap I made for Gwendolyn over on the Haven quite recently that I had a lot of fun with developing.  Gwendolyn has a thing for smoking girls, and by that I mean both literally and figuratively.  I had wanted to incorporate this in such a way that would make sense, but not blatantly come out and say "she's now developed a craving for cigarettes."  I've tried this tact before with some success--the idea that I'll let the action in the picture say that much for me with having to reiterate.

I also played around with some of the effects my editor has to create a comic-book appearance.  Of course, true Noir form would probably be in black & white or sepia, but I really like the way the colors turned out when put through the filter, and feel it allows this caption to pop a bit more.

Finish Her!

A 2011 cap back when the new Mortal Kombat game came out.  The decent one, not versus DC or anything like that.  Of course, with many fighting games, the women are impossibly pretty and busty.  And yet somehow it's fighting attire...  I doubt any real woman could actually move in some of this stuff, much less be protected by any of it.  But just for now, let's drop reality.  We're good at that.

Rude Awakening

This cap is so new, it's only been posted on the haven for less than 24 hours at this point.  I really enjoyed writing this one--as other had commented, it is a bit 'matrixy' although I'm sure the Wachoski Brothers stole that concept from somewhere else in so on.  Great minds and all that.  Which brings me to this week's discussion question:

DISCUSSION QUESTION: Do you prefer originality (if such a thing exists these days) over a television or movie transformation theme?  Or does a movie themed transformation help make things more accessible?

Pop Culture

I think keeping an eye on things going on pop culture can be a powerful aide in caption story-telling.  Paying attention to those kinds of things can create a hefty arsenal.  I think it brings a realness to the caption--a relation to our world.

What do you think?  Does pop culture have a place in TG captions?  How would you use it to your advantage?  Is this something you would like to see more or less of?
